Shirakawa-go
Snow everywhere!

One of the reasons I spent a few days in Kanazawa was its proximity to Shirakawa-go, about 1h30min away by bus.
Well, off I went to Shirakawa-go. Hoping to see some snow. The weather forecast didn't give me much hope, but still...
Shirakawa-go is a small village in a region that is often called the Japanese Alps, or something like that. It is famous for its old, traditional houses, built entirely of wood and with roofs made of a mixture of grass and rice plants, I think.
Despite being a small village, Shirakawa-go attracts many tourists. A lot indeed. Shirakawa-go is also considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, having been included on the select list in 1995.
The route from Kanazawa to Shirakawa-go is full of beautiful scenery and many tunnels. I timed one of the tunnels; the bus took 5 minutes to pass through it. I estimate that the bus was traveling at about 60 km/h, so I don't know, someone good at math can do the math.
Anyway... when we came out of one of these tunnels, the landscape changed radically. Everything turned black and white, lots of snow, lots of snow indeed! At that moment I congratulated myself for having bought an umbrella. 😂
Anyway™2... finally in Shirakawa-go. There was so much snow that I didn't recognize anything from the zillions of videos I had watched about Shirakawa-go.
Below are some photos and videos:

Highly recommended to visit Shirakawa-go in the winter!
