Kanazawa

Apparently one of the rainiest cities in all of Japan

It's hard to keep up with the pace of posts here amidst the rush of travel, but today, back in Brazil, I'm going to talk a little about Kanazawa. Yes, I'm quite late. 🙈

After a few days in Osaka, I headed towards Kanazawa, the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture.

Here's a detail; getting to Kanazawa was a little tricky. Nothing super critical, just previously unexplored waters to brave. For those going from Tokyo to Kanazawa, there is a direct bullet train option. Now for those going from Osaka and the surrounding area, there is no direct train option. I almost missed the train on the connection between Tsuruga and Kanazawa, but everything worked out in the end.

Apparently, Kanazawa is one of the rainiest cities in Japan. I swear I didn't know that when I decided to go there, I just heard that it was a nice city, and that it was easy to get to Shirakawa-go from there. And in fact, out of the 4 or 5 days I stayed there, only 1 day did it not rain, much to my delight.

Kenroku-en 兼六園

One of the most famous tourist attractions in Kanazawa is certainly Kenroku-en, a very old garden/park, dating back to the Edo period (around 1600 to 1868), and particularly known for its unique beauty during all seasons, especially in winter, they say.

It is considered one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, along with Kōraku-en in Okayama (which I also visited, post about it soon) and Kairaku-en in Mito.

Kenroku-en has 6 aspects considered important in the notion of an ideal garden: spaciousness, serenity, venerability, panoramic views, subtle design and coolness.

As mentioned above, Kanazawa is considered one of the rainiest cities in Japan, and obviously when I went to visit this garden, it started to rain halfway there, and it even hailed a little, as shown in the videos below. 😄

But in fact, the place is pretty damn beautiful!
