Context switching
Just me mumbling around
We are 21 days away from our deadline. Will we be able to finish our short animated film in time? To be honest, I think so. Hopefully, I am right.
This was yet another chaotic week, which is becoming the norm this semester.
I struggled a lot, and I blame context switching. You see, until last week I was focused painting the characters' textures, which took me more time than expected, as per usual. Planning and estimating things are not my forte, I confess. But as I was saying, last week I was texturing the characters, this week I needed to get back to animation, and damn, that was hard! Way harder than I thought.
Context switching is something that I'm not sure if I'll be good at, and I don't know if it is something worth being good at. Well, maybe it is, maybe I "just need" to be like water.
Anyway, the scene I'm working on now is not that complicated, but not so simple as well. "It's just a walk cycle" one can say, and while that's true, that definitely doesn't mean it's easy. Nobody said it was, of course, I'm just being dramatic here. To convey the movements of a walk requires you to use a bunch of references, which is not a problem, it's actually the "rule" for all types of animation. I guess what I'm trying to say is that walk cycles are not a joke, at least for me, who doesn't have a lot of experience animating (you can read that as "close to none"). Honestly, I can't wait to get back to Animation Mentor next year, I need that sort of environment and pressure and practice and proper feedback to grow as an artist and animator.
Ok, getting back to what I was saying, the walk cycle I'm working on. It's a loooooong walk cycle, with all sorts of graceful movements and different camera angles to account for. It's fun, nonetheless, well, at least now, that I'm a bit more comfortable animating again, after struggling the whole week.
The good thing is that the Chalazion is almost gone, my eye is almost 100% healed. Also, not more wrist pain. Small improvements and victories should be celebrated, as they say.
The bad thing is that I didn't sketch anything this week, and I missed that a lot!
